Different categories of Universities in India

  There are a total of 1070 universities in India. These universities are divided into four categories:

• Central universities: These universities are established by the central government of India. There are currently 54 central universities in India.
• State universities: These universities are established by the state governments of India. There are currently 459 state universities in India.
• Deemed universities: These universities are granted deemed university status by the central government of India. There are currently 128 deemed universities in India.
• Institutions of national importance: These universities are established by the central government of India and are considered to be of national importance. There are currently 159 institutions of national importance in India.
